HOW TO MAKE APPLESAUCE: FARMHOUSE STYLE

FARMHOUSE APPLESAUCE RECIPE

Nothing is sweeter, warm, yummy and or more delicious than homemade applesauce right out of your own kitchen!
Let's get started, making your own applesauce is so EASY!

Plus you can add your favorite spices, and make it your own. Our family LOVES organic cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.

So let's get started!

APPLES!

Don't not fret over which kind or variety! We had some that were not super crisp like we would prefer so we used those in this recipe. Some were Gala, some were Fugi and some were Macintosh.

We used around 5-6 lbs.

We washed them and peeled them and remove the cores. You will only use the flesh of your apples in this recipe.

We placed our apple slices in a large pot and added a cup of apple cider to them. Then we added a 1/2 cup of brown sugar and a sprinkle each of organic cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. I added 4 tablespoons of butter too. ( I am a true southern gal) Feel free to add less or more of the spices. You can omit the butter if you are watching your waistline. :)
Juice of one lemon.
1 cup of apple juice or cider (we used cider)
You will the apples with the spices and other ingredients down (reduce them) on med to high for 20-25 mins until soft. You want a rapid boil. Stir them every so often.

Once your apples are cooked to a soft consistency you will place them in your food processor and choose if you would like your applesauce thick or thin. We prefer ours creamy and smooth.

Be careful placing your hot apples into your processor.

We pureed ours.

Maybe just a bit longer to smooth out the apple pieces.

We placed our prepared applesauce into a crock.

You can store in in the fridge or can eat it if you wish.
We ate ours warm.
