Homemade Tacos From Scratch

Everyone is always asking how I make my tacos.

Well today I am going to share the secret.

First the key to a great taco meat is the seasoning. You cannot just buy a package of taco seasoning and then wonder why your meat taste just so - so.

You have to buy top quality items and I will share with you that I thought it sounded a little pricey at first but once I made the investment. I never looked back.

I purchase most of my spices at Sam's club and some are grown from our raised beds here at the farmhouse.

I use top quality ground beef and try to buy a ratio of less fat than say 80% to 20%.

You will want to cook it until it is brown and drain all liquid unitl meat is dry.

By the way fresh herbs and spices are a VERY healthy choice for your family and with this meal they will not even realize they are eating healthy! :)

So let's get started!
The recipe for the taco meat goes like this.
Ingredients:
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/8 of ground cayenne red pepper
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 to 1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon ground black peppercorn

Mix and add to air tight container or to your pot of meat.

This recipe makes enough for one lb of meat.
Add about 3/4 cups of water or until spices and browned meat are a little juicy.

I made three batches in this post and added it to 3 lbs of brown hamburger meat.
I then added 2 1/2 cups of water.

Let is simmer for about 10 minutes and serve with fresh peppers, tomatoes, cheese, and of course sour cream!

If you like yours with HEAT add more ground cayenne red pepper to the mix!

I throw mine in the slow cooker for easy family dinner night!

I like to make this Creamy Mexican Cheese Dip
to go with my Taco Dinner. Try it and I think you will agree it will become your Friday night GO TO for feeding your family.

The Taco Meat freezes wonderful that is if you have any leftover.
